Hopefully everything should be going rather well for you right now, and you should have your Page Title, Horizontal Line, some Text for content, and you inserted a picture and now have some Meta Tags. So now your webpage is pretty much finished.
Before we save the webpage we need to change a few things in your Preferences. To save you alot of hassle in the future, you need to save your webpages with the extension .shtml. Dreamweaver's extension defaults to .html. But I am going to teach you all about "SSI" later, so to use "SSI" (Server Side Includes) your pages need to be saved with the extension .shtml. And Dreamweaver will gladly save your pages in .shtml all the time, if you will set the Preferences.
So click on "Edit" in the top menu bar, and scroll to the bottom and click Preferences.... A screen will pop up, and hopefully "General" is highlighted in blue. If it isn't, then click on it, and you will see this screen.

Change the "Add Extension when Saving to .shtml" then click Okay. Your Preference screen should look just like mine. After you click Okay, the screen will disappear, and all your pages will have an extension of .shtml when you save them.
So let's do that right now. Your page is finished right? Click F12 on your Keyboard to Preview it in the browser, and see what you have created.
To save your newly created webpage, Click on "File" in the top menu bar, and scroll down to, "Save as..." When you click Save as... a screen will show up, and it will open the last file that you saved, which would be your images file. You will also see a file that Dreamweaver created when you previewed your page by clicking F12.
Type in the word "index" This will be your homepage. In my "basicdreamweaver" file, I will save it as "index" too. The reason for saving it as Index is so that all your pages will point to this main page. We will add the navigation on the second page we build.

Now your folder should have something similar in it to my folder.

Now since you clicked Save, the screen closed. Can you find your new files again? Just click File - Open and the screen will reappear. Now you can open your Index page or any page, anytime you want to change something. If you are finished for the day, you can just close Dreamweaver if you want.
