Hopefully every thing should be going rather well for you right now, and you should have your Page Title, Horizontal Line, some Text for content, and you inserted a picture So now your webpage is nearly finished. Before we save the webpage we need to add a couple more things, such as the META TAGS.
What are Meta Tags for? Meta Tags are for the search engines to be able to find your webpage. If the search engines can find your webpages, then you will have visitors to your webpages. Another way to get traffic to your webpages is by asking other websites to link to your website. I have instructions for that on my Photography pages called Website Tips. Your basic Meta Tags are, "Keywords," and "Description."
So here's where your Meta Tags are located. Click on the Navigation bar at the top of your Dreamweaver, where it says, "Insert." That's what we are going to do, insert the Meta Tags. So click on Insert, move your mouse pointer down to "Head," and go over and click on "Description."
Then an empty box will pop up and you can type a Description of your page. Just one sentence. Now you have a cute little icon up on top, that you can click on anytime you want, and change your description.

You will also notice that there are 2 more icons in this page bar. The first one is your Title Bar, the second icon is an Encoding icon. The Encoding icon tells search engines what language your website is in. The Encoding icon defaults to English. So every time you open Dreamweaver you will have these first 2 icons in the Page Bar.
Let's add another Meta Tag. We need to let the search engines have a clue as to what our page is about. So we insert a "Keyword" Meta Tag. Keyword Meta Tag is located just above the Description Meta Tag. So follow the steps above, and click on Keyword, instead of Description this time. Now your Page Information Bar should look like this.

Now you should have 4 icons in your Page Information Bar. When the Keyword Meta Tag box comes up, put in about 10 main words, with a comma and a space between each word. After adding your keywords click back on your page to make the box turn back into your "Properties" box .
But let's not stop here! Your first icon is your Title Bar. Right now it should say, "Untitled Document." Let's change that! Just click on the first icon, and your Properties box will change to your Title box.

Okay, now we have the Meta Tags out of the way. These are the only important tags you need, but if you skip this part, then the search engines just may pull the keywords off of your page automatically. I have some pages where I did not add the Meta Tags, but on some search engines, like MSN, they depend on them heavily. So it's better to insert the Meta Tags, then not insert them.
