Is it easy to make a website? Not really, but it can be easy if you have some help. We began building websites by handcoding our webpages in .html, which was very tedious, but we did learn alot by doing it this way. Then Dreamweaver 3 came along, and we had to have it! It took us a little while to learn it, but you don't have to go through what we did. We are here to help you!
When we became interested in building a website, we had alot to learn. For instance, we didn't know about "servers." We started our websites back then on "free website servers." There are still a few free servers around. But our free web host sold to another company, and we had to find another website server, what a hassle that was! Read all about the "web hosts we used, and who we are using now."
This tutorial, however, is on "How to build your website before you get a server." Not only do you need a "web host" you also need a "domain" name. So, first you build the website, and then you get a domain and then a server.
Okay so let's get started on your new website!
First you need
to create a file to hold all your new pages.
So open your Dreamweaver 3
program,
Click "File"the first word in your top menu
bar
Scroll down to "Open." (By default Dreamweaver will open
the Dreamweaver folder) Here's a picture of what you will see, if this is the
first time you have ever used Dreamweaver.

Click
the little file with the up arrow until it says "Local Disk C"
in the bar. Now click on the little folder with the star, to create a new folder.

The reason New Folder is blue, is because they want you to name the folder. So click inside the box, and New Folder name will disappear. Now type in a name, like "WWW" or My Website, or something else that is easy to remember.
After you name your folder, Then double click on it, or click "Open" When it is Open you will see nothing is there. So use the same process as above and create another folder for your images. Call it images or pictures or photos, or something like that.

I named my new pages file, "basicdreamweaver" and you can see I have another file inside of my "basicdreamweaver" folder that I called "images" for my pictures. My images folder is not empty though, it has the above pictures in it. : ) Sometimes it is better to fix your pictures before you start your website. If you don't know how to do this, but have Photoshop, then see my Photoshop tutorials.
Now if you have been able to follow the steps on this page, and you have your folder created, and can locate it on your "Local Disk C" you will have no problem following the rest of the Dreamweaver tutorial.
So with your Dreamweaver program open, your page should still be empty, right? So the first thing we will do is make a Page Title.
